Clarifications Regarding Recent Staffing Changes

Tuesday, December 31st, 2013

Hi everyone!

I would like to take a moment to apologize for the confusion and hurt surrounding the recent changes at Expanded Horizons.

Due to personal reasons entirely unrelated to eir work with the magazine, prezzey, our Story Consultant/Site Administrator/Website Designer/Artwork Editor, abruptly stepped down from the magazine in April of 2013. Briefly, in July, both Maria Velazquez and Jacie stepped in to help fill eir role until I had sufficiently learned WordPress and could take over all active functions of the magazine myself. I appreciate their assistance in helping to keep this magazine running smoothly.

Though Maria, Jacie and others continue to provide occasional support as needed, I currently run this magazine alone.

I was unaware until eight months after prezzey left, in December, that though prezzey had left, e still desired to be credited on the magazine’s staff page for former work here, including site design and administration. I believe there were several miscommunications between us due the circumstances of prezzey’s leaving, and we had had no communication in the intervening months. I apologize for the hurt this oversight has caused. I have no desire to take credit for anyone else’s work, and never have.

As soon as I learned of prezzey’s desires, I immediately placed prezzey’s bio back on the site, as it had appeared when e stepped down in April, and listed em as former staff.

prezzey’s bio dated from 2009, when e joined the magazine. I erred in not carefully reading the bio over again when I replaced it, and unfortunately it was not only out of date (as all our bios are, I now see), but also incorrectly described prezzey’s gender. I greatly apologize for this oversight. It has now been corrected, and, I hope, an updated bio is forthcoming. (Upon reflection, the bios should have been updated long before prezzey left the magazine.)

In conclusion, I am immensely grateful for the countless hours and late nights prezzey graciously and selflessly volunteered from 2009 to 2013 helping to make this magazine what it is today. I could not have done it without eir help. prezzey is now credited on our staff page, under former staff, for eir work in Website Design/Layout, and as Site Administrator, Story Consultant, and Artwork Editor, and e is also credited in our artwork guidelines for eir contribution there as well.

I wish all of our former staff and readers a joyous winter season, a happy new year, and warm blessings for 2014.
