Technical Issues

Saturday, March 9th, 2013

Dear Readers,

Due to a serious technical problem, we had to roll back the site to an earlier version, so the December issue is currently missing. The site might be offline for some time altogether. We’re working on fixing it. No data was lost and the issue will hopefully be up again soon.

Thank you for your patience!

Our August Issue is Online!

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

Dear Readers,

Our August issue launches a bit early to compensate for the lack of a July issue. We apologize for the delay and we hope you enjoy our four brand-new stories, none of which have been published before! Two of the stories are about nonduality, a theme not often addressed in science fiction. All four stories this month are by women authors, three of whom are also people of color.

If you enjoy the issue, please take a moment to donate!

Our March Issue is Online!

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Dear Readers,

We are back — with four stories and an exclusive interview!  See spirits in New York, read the Necronomicon in Mexico, meet a talking river and travel to a far-off land under the sea! All our contributors this month are women of color, of various ethnic backgrounds!

Special thanks to Karen Burnham, Julius Maramba and two anonymous donators for their generous contribution to this issue of Expanded Horizons. If you enjoy the issue, please take a moment to donate as well.

Our December Issue is Online!

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

Dear Readers,

Happy Holidays!  We are back with four brand new stories, never published before! We also have an especially strong lineup of authors this month. Our story topics include gay lovers and the undead, a mysterious alien hitchhiker, a battle between two immortals and a river marriage. At least one of these topics will recur in our next issue, so stay tuned for more!

Our holiday fundraising drive is also now in effect!  Expanded Horizons wants to take the next step in publishing and go “semi-pro”! If everyone who read our magazine gave $5, we would have enough money to cover all of next year’s expenses, and to increase the pay rate for our contributors. If everyone gave $10, we could go semi-pro for all stories.

Please show your support of diverse speculative fiction this holiday season and help us take that step.  If you’ve been reading us all year and enjoy what we publish, please show your appreciation by contributing to our sustainability.

Thank you!

Our September Issue is Online!

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Dear Readers,

We are back after the holiday break with three new stories – two by repeat authors and one whose work we are publishing for the first time.

This is a quite bloody issue – in one story, you will be able to witness the magical twist in a battle between Malaysian villagers and Portuguese invaders, while in another, you will see a powerful young dragon-like creature clash with humans – from the dragon’s point of view. We also have a third story, a romantic tale with dark and mystical undertones.

Enjoy the new issue and please donate if you appreciate our efforts,

Our July Issue is Online!

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Dear Readers,

After some delay, our new issue is finally online, with four fascinating stories! We are proud to showcase three authors of color, one of whom has her first ever publication with us. We wish her success in her writing career!

Our July issue also includes a story that directly calls out common racist stereotypes in SF. We seldom publish similar material, but for reasons explained on the story page, we felt that this was warranted.

Enjoy the issue and please donate via Paypal if you appreciate our efforts!

Our June Issue is Online!

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

Dear Readers,

Our new issue contains two lengthy stories and a fascinating poem. This time we have both seasoned writers and an author with a first publication – we are very pleased to get submissions from people with all sorts of backgrounds!

In this issue you will meet a djinn who definitely does not live in a lamp, witness the secret life of a gumiho (not a kitsune!) and learn about the difficulties of opening a window on the past while operating on a shoestring budget.

Enjoy the issue and please donate if you appreciate our efforts,
